Ilkeston Heritage & Classic Vehicle show 201
This show was organised by the Erewash Partnership and as far as we in the preserved bus movement were concerned it was a brilliant show and all credit to Ian Viles C.E.O. of Erewash Partnership who made the show the huge success it was. The weather forecast gave out heavy rain for the day but apart from a few spots it was dry. (Ian must have a contact somewhere that kept the rain at bay).
On the bus side we agreed that the theme would be to try and bring a 1960s market display and keep the display of buses only for Midland General, Barton and Trent, they were the buses that used the market place plus one other and that was Felix but as there is not one of their buses preserved we did without, BUT! keep your eyes peeled on this site Paul Chambers has just brought one and is going to restore it. The bus is a Bedford SB1 reg no 618 KRA.

Erewash Borough Council gave permission to advertise the show on the front of the Town Hall
The destination that is shown on 296 and on all the buses on display are the correct ones for the 1960s and the location of the buses is where they stood at that time.
That was the location for the buses on Sundays and weekdays in the 60s with St Marys church in the background.
The back end of the buses add to the 1960s theme for the buses.
The stalker has turned up.
Wharncliffe Road was the usual place for the F2 and C8 services 7 days a week and the Trent bus behind the C8 was on service 165 to Ripley via Smalley and Horseley Woodhouse Saturdays only.
This last picture from the show is my favorite, the cenotaph stands in front of a line of buses this was a typical scene in the 60s.
This is the first show of its kind on Ilkeston Market and I certainly hope it is not the last.
The prize for the best vehicle in show went to Dave Wheatley for his Barton Regent 5 but he had left before I could get a picture of him and his trophy.
The award for the best bus went to guess what, it was 296!
